Microtek ScanWizard 5
Media Services Production Center

Click on the ScanWizard icon appearing on the desktop to launch the program.

After you select the ScanWizard icon, the program will launch. You will notice several selection buttons appearing along the right side of the control panel screen. You can now place your image face down on the scanner and select the Original button appearing at the top of the control panel.

Once you select this button, you will notice several options from which you may choose from. Of specific interest is the Film option with the sub options of Positive and Negative Film. The Positive Film option would need to be selected for the scanning of color slides. The Negative Film option would need to be selected for the scanning of transparencies.

Two of the most common types of scanning options will include Photo and Text Document. In order to scan an image, select Photo from the Original button and then select the Preview button. By doing so, a preview image of the scanned document will be presented to you. Also, by selecting the Adjust button appearing along the right side of the screen, you will be presented with the following options.

Options that you may control directly in the ScanWizard program.

You can then designate the location to which you actually want the data scanned to by selecting and holding down the Scan to button appearing at the top of the control panel screen. You will be presented with several options including: Scan to - save to a specific location, such as the desktop or hard drive; Copy - send to a printer; E-mail - designate as an attachment; OCR - save the image to an Optical Character Recognition application and To Web - save for use in a web page. If you wish to perform further manipulation of the image such as can be accomplished through Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, simply begin the scanning process by launching the designated program.

In our example, we will use Paint Shop Pro but the TWAIN function that will be subsequently discussed is available for use in other applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, etc. Continuing with our discussion, after Paint Shop Pro is launched, select File, Import, TWAIN, and Select Source. At this point, you will be presented with a list of scanners.

You would then select the Microtek ScanWizard 5 scanner.

You will then need to go to File once again and select Import, TWAIN, and this time select Acquire. After you perform this action, the Microtek ScanWizard will launch and you will receive the control panel screen that was described previously.

At this point, you would perform the scanning steps mentioned previously. The only difference between this control panel screen and the control panel screen mentioned previously is the fact that the Scan button does not provide a list of scanning options because it is defaulted to scan to the application within which it was opened, namely Paint Shop Pro. Therefore, when you select the Scan button, the scanned image will directly import into Paint Shop Pro and you may make modifications to it at this point.
