The
NSU Honors Program is designed for academically talented and
highly motivated students.
The Program consists primarily of the following:
1.
Honors Courses.
These courses are small; they are taught seminar style (conversation
over lecture format); and they attract a large number of highly
motivated students. Honors Courses are not harder. They
are better.
2.
The In Honoribus Degree.
Students who complete 18 hours Honors credits, including an Honors
Project, will graduate in honoribus, which is the highest
graduation honor awarded by Northern.
3.
National and Regional
Honors Associations.
The NSU Honors Program is a member of the National Collegiate Honors
Council and the Upper Midwest Honors Council. The director and
students frequently travel to the national and regional meetings.

Currently enrolled students who have a GPA of 3.25 or
above, and high school seniors who have an ACT of 26 or above and rank
in or near the top 25 percent of their graduating class may apply for
admission. Students who do not meet these entrance criteria but can
demonstrate that they have made a commitment to the objectives of the
program may also apply and be considered for admission.
Students who receive a President's or Vice President's
scholarship are automatically eligible and are strongly urged to
participate in the program
